I know its been a while since I last posted, but all is well in Literacy Land. I am very pleased to announce that in additon to helping teachers prepare for the TAKS tests and retests, an emphhasis is also being placed on building literacy in all students. Teachers are interested in helping students to not only past their required tests, but to become proficient readers, who not only read as a result of assignments, but for enjoyment as well.

  1. glad to hear all is well! you mention literacy and that seems to be a point of contention as it relates to the tech world. digital literacy seems to be something that many are concerned with as it relates to learning in today's digital culture.

  2. A recent issue of Educational Leadership contained many articles that discussed the new digital literacies that students need to possess. There were exciting stories about what kids are doing with social networks, blogging, and other such things. The kids will be okay and learn what they need to, if we do what we need to--harness the power.

  3. It's refreshing when you find teachers who are still interested in teaching real literacy skills that students can take with them into the world to foster a love of communicating and an empowerment to be the skilled communicator in whatever format best suits the purpose. If we don't teach literacy skills, how will students be the collaborators that will be required in this 21st century, global economy?
